After success at the age-group level at both continental and world stage, Lasha GOBADZE (GEO) replicated that at the senior level as well, winning a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships. Four years later, he became the world champion by winning world gold at 82kg. But to qualify for the Tokyo Games, he jumped up a weight and competed at 87kg, qualifying from the European Qualifiers. He defeated Metehan BASAR (TUR), Artur SHAHINYAN (ARM) and Milad ALIRZAEV (RUS) to reach the final and qualify for the Olympics. This will be his debut Olympics.
